dc.description.abstractThe current study was carried out to characterize the nutritive potential in terms of ash, CP, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber and (ADF) acid detergent lignin (ADL) and the mineral composition of 12 species indigenous to arid rangelands of Tunisia. Results indicated the production of Chamaephyte shrubs, such as Rhanterium suaveolens, Gymnocarpos decander, Helianthemum lippii, Helianthemum kahiricum, Echiochilon fruticosum, and Anthyllis henoniana and Poaceae plants, such as Stipagrostis pungens, Stipa lagascae and Stipa tenacissima represent the greater part of fodder production for livestock. The nutritive value of natural vegetation of arid rangeland growing in the south of Tunisia appears quite promising in energy and mineral elements for animal feeding. Among the studied species, Rhanterium suaveolens, Helianthemum lippii, Echiochilon fruticosum, Argyrolobium uniflorum, Helianthemum kahiricum and Gymnocarpos decander had the highest nutritive values.en_US
