Abstract

A seed system analysis is carried out aiming at providing context through: a)Exploring the current system of seed certification in Afghanistan and the role of various stakeholders in the seed certification system. A general awareness of the socioeconomic and productivity of the prevailing system of seed quality assurance on the agriculture and food security of the nation will serve as a benchmark of the future impact of the reform in the seed supply system. b) Analyzing data collected from the survey with the view of identifying the constraints and provide solutions to the constraints. The Survey targeted a selection of key stakeholders of the seed sector comprising representatives from government organizations (National Seed Board, Seed Certification Agency), Agricultural Universities, seed testing laboratories, Private Seed Enterprises (PSE) and seed companies, contract farmers and ordinary farmers.
