The objective of the Ultra-Low Energy Drip Irrigation for MENA Countries project is to design and field validate ultra-low pressure drip irrigation systems for the MENA region in the field, for young and mature olive and citrus orchards, in Morocco. The newly designed emitters will cut pumping energy by 50% (for electric or diesel pumps), enable drip systems to run on low-pressure municipal water supplies, and facilitate the dissemination of low-cost, solar-powered drip irrigation solutions. The experiment compares the performance and outcomes of the ultra-low energy drip irrigation emitters (ULE or MIT drippers) against traditionally used drip irrigation emitters (Traditional drippers). The present progress report describes activities and results achieved by the project ‘Ultra-Low Energy Drip Irrigation for MENA Countries Project’ conducted during the last quarter of the third year (2019) of the project. Activities scheduled in the project ‘Ultra-Low Energy Drip Irrigation for MENA Countries Project’ during the quarter (October – November- December) are related to description of olive fruit production and olive oil production and quality of trials conducted at Sâada Research Station for young and mature olive orchards. Other activities concern result dissemination, extension, and field visits. In addition, we conducted surveys with farmers in Agadir region, drip irrigation distributors and the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture to understand drip irrigation business sector in Morocco and its institutional frameworks.en_US
