dc.description.abstractRecombinant DNA technology has significantly enhanced our ability for crop improvement, to meet the increased demand for food and fiber. Considerable progress has been made over the past two decades in manipulating genes from diverse sources to develop plants with resistance to insect pests, improve effectiveness of bio control agents, marker assisted selection for insect resistance, understand the nature of gene action and metabolic pathways, production of genetically modified sterile insects, use of molecular techniques in insect taxonomy, understand the mode of action of insecticides, and identify insecticides with newer mode of action.en_US
