Aleppo has been home to (CARDA and its staff since 1977. The mission of ICARDA is to promote agriculture in the harsh environments of dry areas, characterized by frequent drought. By increasing food production and protecting the natural resource base. 1CARDA's research program seeks to improve the quality of life and alleviate poverty. With a magical landscape. ancient civilization. fascinating markets. an imposing Citadel. unique mosque., and churches, and a warm and hospitable people. Aleppo is the second home for expatriate staff of ICARDA. currently representing 52 nationalities ICARDA is therefore pleased to present this book as a token of its gratitude to the people of Aleppo on the occasion of the City having been recognized as the Capital of Islamic Heritage and culture.
