Manish K Pandey. (31/1/2017). Main-effect QTLs (M-QTLs) for Aspergillus infection and Aflatoxin Contamination.
Screening of the fungal infection was performed in the controlled conditions at Tifton in 2015. QTL analysis using phenotyping and genotyping data identified ten M-QTLs for the Aspergillus infection with PVE ranging from 6.34% (qASI_T15_a03_3_4) to 14.17% (qASI_T15_a05_3_2) (Table 2). All the ten QTLs were located on the A-Genome and none on B-Genome. Out of ten QTLs, only three (qASI_T15_a03_3, qASI_T15_a05_3_1 and qASI_T15_a05_3_2) were the major QTLs with the PVE 13.23%, 11.21% and 14.17%, respectively, LOD values of theses QTLs were also high viz. 6.4, 5.6 and 5.5, while rest of the seven were minor QTLs. Among all the identified QTLs, six QTLs mapped on A03, three on A05 and only one on A04 genome. Of the ten QTLs, only one QTL namely qASI_T15_a04_2 (-0.99) on the genome A04 showed negative additive effect indicating contribution by the parent ‘Tifrunner’. QTL analysis using phenotyping and genotyping data identified four M-QTLs for aflatoxin contamination. The PVE for these QTLs ranged from 6.22% (qAFC_T15_a08_2) to 15.14% (qAFC_T15_a04_2) (Table 2). Of these four QTLs, three QTLs viz. qAFC_T15_a04_2, qAFC_T15_a08_2 and qAFC_T15_a04_3 were found on the A-Genome, while only one qAFC_T15_a12_1 was mapped on the B-Genome. Further, of the four QTLs, qAFC_T15_a04_2 was identified as a major QTL with the PVE 15.14% and LOD value 4.4. Interestingly, both the QTLs reported on A04 had negative additive value i.e. -15.08 (qAFC_T15_a04_2) and -9.00 (qAFC_T15_a04_3).
